British nurse Lucy Letby found guilty of attempted murder in retrial

Neonatal nurse Lucy Letby was convicted last year of Killed seven babies and attempted to kill six She was found guilty on Tuesday of the attempted murder of another premature baby at the British hospital where she worked.

After a jury initially failed to reach a verdict in the case of the child, known as Baby K to protect her identity, Ms. Letby has been retried in a court in Manchester, northern England, for the past four weeks. She is due to be sentenced on Friday, having already been sentenced to life in prison for a previous conviction.

Ms Letby, 34, worked at the Countess of Chester Hospital in Chester, northwest England, between June 2015 and June 2016 when a large number of babies unexpectedly died or became seriously ill on her neonatal unit.

Senior prosecutor Nicola Wyn Williams said that although Ms Letby had “always denied that she tried to kill this baby, or any baby she was convicted of murdering or attempting to murder”, the jury had “formed their own opinion”.

“The grief that Baby K’s family is experiencing is unimaginable,” she said. “Our hearts go out to them and everyone affected by this case.”
