Vietnam’s recent political turmoil intensified on Friday as the president of Vietnam’s parliament resigned, the latest high-level departure in the government amid a widening anti-corruption campaign that has raised questions about the country’s stability.

Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue submitted his resignation on Friday after the Central Inspection Commission found that he violated regulations governing Communist Party membership. It did not specify what those provisions were, but it was issued four days after his aides were detained on abuse of power charges.

“Mr. The Central Executive Committee stated that Wang Dinh Hue’s illegal actions and shortcomings have aroused bad public opinion and affected the reputation of the party, the country and himself.” The Vietnamese government wrote in a Facebook post.

Mr Hue is one of them The “Four Pillars” of Leadership In Vietnam – the others are communist leaders, prime ministers and state presidents – making him a possible candidate for the party’s future leadership. His resignation is likely to heighten anxiety among Vietnamese officials about an intensifying power struggle ahead of a looming leadership change in 2026 and unsettle foreign investors who have poured into the country in recent years.

Hue is the fourth Politburo member to resign or be removed since 2021. Last month, President Vo Van Thuong Resigned after the Communist Party said he violated rules. He is the second president to step down in more than a year.

Hue seems to be popular among her peers. In a vote of confidence in 44 members of Congress in October 2023, he received 91% of the total votes, the highest proportion of the group.

Earlier this month, Nguyen Phu Trong led a high-level delegation from Vietnam to visit China. He was last seen in public on Friday morning when he visited the mausoleum of former president and revolutionary hero Ho Chi Minh with the prime minister to mark next week’s 49th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War and the reunification of North and South.
