Israeli soldiers raided the Palestinian town of Wadi Burqin on the outskirts of the West Bank city of Jenin on Saturday morning, arresting Palestinians suspected of being part of militant groups. Jenin has long been a stronghold for loosely organized militant groups that have been the subject of repeated crackdowns by the Israeli military in recent months.
The military said Palestinian militants exchanged fire with Israeli soldiers. Israeli troops arrested a Palestinian who was wounded in the shooting.
“In violation of orders and standard operating procedures, the suspect was taken away tied to the roof of a car,” the Israeli military said, adding that such behavior was “incompatible with the values of its army.”
The Israeli military said its troops had handed over the injured Palestinians to the Palestinian Red Crescent for medical treatment.
The occupied West Bank has seen increasing violence over the past eight months since the Hamas-led attack on October 7 and the subsequent Gaza war. According to the United Nations, more than 500 Palestinians and 12 Israelis have been killed in the region, and thousands of Palestinians have been arrested in Israel’s almost nightly raids.
