Hamas claims rocket attack shuts down main crossing between Israel and Gaza

Hamas said on Sunday its armed forces fired rockets at Israeli forces near the Kerem Shalom crossing between Gaza and Israel. Kan, Israel Public Broadcasting Company, report The attack left many injured.

The Israeli military said about 10 rockets were fired at Kerem Shalom from an area near the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt.

Kerem Shalom is one of the few crossing points through which humanitarian aid can enter the Gaza Strip. After Sunday’s attack, the military said it had blocked access to rescue trucks.

Israel’s foreign ministry condemned the attack and said it showed Hamas was not interested in getting aid into the territory, which a U.N. official said parts of the region are experiencing “A general famine.”

The ministry said that while the army was “delivering humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing, terrorists fired rockets into the same area.”

“Israel remains committed to providing life-saving aid, while Hamas remains committed to destroying lives,” it added.

After the attack, Israel’s national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, a far-right member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet, urged Mr Netanyahu to authorize a long-awaited military attack on Rafah.

“We did not attack Gaza and we won on October 7,” Mr Ben-Gweil said in a statement Publish online. “We didn’t attack Rafah, we got a precision attack, Netanyahu, go to Rafah now!”
